AUDITION PROCESS
Registration for the 2022-2023 Loyola University Maryland Dance Team is officially open! Auditions will take place in-person on Loyola's campus in Baltimore, MD. Dancers must attend both days of auditions from 10 am to 6 pm each day.
Video auditions may be accepted on a case by case basis. It is not required to be committed to Loyola in order to audition, however given the dates of auditions, it is strongly recommended that dancers committ to Loyola prior to April 30.
The 2022-2023 Loyola University Maryland Dance Team will be announced at the conclusion of Audition on May 1. There will be a virtual team meeting for the 2022-2023 team on Wednesday, May 4th at 7 PM.

All dancers interested in auditioning, must complete and return the following:
- 2022-2023 Audition Registration, found here.
- Freshmen & Transfers: your letter of acceptance to Loyola or enrollment verification if you have already committed to Loyola
- Current Loyola Students: Fall 2021 Semester grades & cumulative GPA.

IN-PERSON AUDITIONS:
Our in-person auditions consist of the following components:
The Loyola Dance Team coaches are looking for dancers who are highly technical in their dance skills and display high levels of energy and performance quality in their dancing. The following Technical Skills should be mastered prior to attending auditions:
Preferred elements include:
- Technique
- Choreography (Jazz, Hip Hop & Pom)
- Interviews
The Loyola Dance Team coaches are looking for dancers who are highly technical in their dance skills and display high levels of energy and performance quality in their dancing. The following Technical Skills should be mastered prior to attending auditions:
- Kicks (front, side, and arabesque)
- Grand Jete
- Leap in Second
- Calypsos
- Disc jump or saucer
- Triple pirouettes
- A la seconde turns on the right (at least 3 into a double; prefer advanced combos that include spot changing, floats, or technical entrances/exits)
- Toe Touch, double toe touches encouraged
Preferred elements include:
- Switch Tilt/Arabesque/Leap
- Ninjas
- Headsprings
- Kip ups
- Aerials & Tumbling
- Extensions
WHAT TO WEAR:
- Female dancers should wear form-fitting apparel. Sports bra-style or crop tops and spandex shorts are common, and you may choose to wear a top that has embellishments or intricate design elements.
- Hair should be styled down and either straightened, curled, or styled in a natural texture.
- Makeup should enhance the features of the face and is required for auditions; we typically have a smokey eye and a dark red lipstick for games.
- Male dancers should wear a slim fit t-shirt or tank top and black shorts, dance pants, or joggers
- Attire for both males and females should reflect pride in the school spirit of Loyola and are preferred to be black, white, dark green, or grey in color.
- Jazz shoes/Turners and sneakers for hip hop
- Post earrings are allowed, but all other excessive jewelry should be removed prior to coming to tryout

TIME COMMITMENT AND TEAM SCHEDULE
Being a member of the Loyola Dance Team is a large, full-year time commitment. Please make sure you read the below information regarding our schedule prior to registering for auditions!
- We typically practice 3 times a week for 2-3 hours each
- We perform at all men's and women's home basketball games. Additionally, we perform at select men's lacrosse, volleyball, soccer, women's lacrosse, and other campus-related events throughout the year.
- Competitions/additional competition practices vary and will be determined by our Coaches prior to the start of each season.
- Team members (new and returning) are required to attend NDA Camp during the summer each year (early August). Team members may be required to return to Baltimore 1-2 days prior to the start of camp to review rules, schedules, complete uniform distribution, etc.
- While we do not have summer or pre-camp practices on campus, we do hold team members accountable for summer training and conditioning at home.
- Team members engage in various on campus/community events and team fundraisers throughout the year. Members of the team are expected to be at all events to support our team & community!
